POWERFLUSHING UPDATE 1.   FEB 2009.

  • I have now changed to using a KAMCO CF90 powerflushing machine, which has the ability to deliver up to 80% flow rate increase. (The extra flow cannot damage pipe work as it will be dumped back to the flusher if not used.) Once the flush is under way, the extra flow really helps to remove the stubborn debris and sludge, making the flushing more effective. The pipe work from the powerflusher is now ¾ inch, which improves the flow and return to the flusher.
  • I have also started using a KAMCO combiheat; this piece of equipment heats the system water when there is a problem with the boiler or heat source. It is fitted into a clear sided body which allows the state of system water to be visually checked. It must be remembered that the flushing chemicals work better when heated, therefore giving a better result, faster.
  • After trying all the different chemicals, I have decided to revert back to using the Kamco Hypoflush for the cleaning process and the Kamco System, a safe inhibitor which really does protect the system. (SYSTEM -SAFE has BUILDCERT and DWTA certification and HYPERFLUSH has DWTA - Domestic Water Treatment Association).
  • I have decided not to change the MAGNACLEAN magnetic filter as I find it very effective and easy to use. This catches the metal debris and helps to stop scouring during the flushing process.
  • The time taken to powerflush a system hasn't changed, but now I am achieving a superior result which results in the faster warm up of all radiators. As well as pleasing myself and the customer, it is also saving energy.
  • The POWERFLUSH takes about 4.5 - 5.5 hours for an 8 radiator system, when complying with BS 7593:2006.
