Power Flushing Method

  • Cap off the system to form a closed loop.
  • Connect the powerflusher and magnaclean filter to the system via radiator position or in place of removed pump.
  • Firstly flush the pipe work to remove the sludge (then DHW pipework on system boilers).
  • Then clean each radiator in turn by agitating and reversing flow 5-10 times, then check with an infra red thermometer to make sure the water ways are clear and clean. If not repeat the process.
  • When the whole system has been cleaned, it is then flushed with clean water to remove all debris.
  • When the system water reaches correct ph and tds, the powerflusher and magnaclean can be removed.
  • If there is an F/E tank, this should be thoroughly cleaned also.
  • Finally the inhibitor can be added to stop corrosion.
  • All of the radiators are now balanced with an infra red thermometer, this improves the performance of the whole system.
  • The job should take 4-6 hours to complete.
  • Then the customer should be issued with certification of powerflushing compliant to BS7593:2006 and manufacturers instructions + inhibitor sticker applied to the boiler or F/E tank.
  • On combi boiler the plate heat exchanger sometimes needs removing to be cleaned separately, if badly scaled up.
